So, the details for this event, at the very last minute, are as of the following:
Theme : Starry Starry Night. Date : 13th December 2008, Saturday. Time : 2.30PM - 6.30PM. Venue : Grand Bluewave Hotel.
Day started off fairly well, what with me spending the day before shopping for last minute accessories with mumsie. Got myself a belt and a pair of shoes. More like two pairs - the boot-like heels I got for prom and a pair of gladiators. At last! I'd been aiming for a pair of gladiators since forever maybe? Lol.
Almost got into a fight with the head of the family, aka my dad as he wanted me to leave the event at 3.30. As you can see in the details above, the event starts at 2.30, but he's making me leave at 3.30 so he can make it back in time to wash the aquariums. Oh please, I'm trying to be considerate, but when he goes out with his friends, he's not willing at all to leave earlier, but ends up later than usual, so why shouldn't I do the same? Honestly, he's really ironic at times.
In the end, things got settled at the last minute and I could leave at 5. Yippee.
So, reached there quite early around 12.50pm to try and help with the preparations (yeah right) and the first thing I went to see was the events' board. And instead of the name of the event which I wanted to see, what I saw was horribly terrifying beyond words.
SIGS JB.
Followed by all the details of the so-called prom! Boy, was trouble spelt in my head many times after that.
Since I was attracting loads of unwanted attention from the staff and some of the hotel guests, I hid in the toilet.
Come on, I think that hotel's a five star, at least a four maybe, their toilets are bound to be of higher class than the usual.
While waiting..it was then Lyn-jie's words rang in my head to camwhore more. Which I think I utterly failed in. Forgive me Lyn-jie, please please please from this neko here? =3
Snap 1.
Snap 2.
Pardon me if I look like some rich fatass tai-tai, that is definitely unintended.
Finally Naomi and Michelle arrived, they weren't late 'cos I was too early, but I seriously can't wait to see them. I felt really awkward, all dressed up and all alone. Definitely can't survive by my own if I were to go for another formal event, which in this special case, was not so formal anyway. Still, never hurts to have company, especially when you know them! =)
Went up to the sixth floor to do what we're supposed to do, till we saw some shocking issues that came to life.
Issue 1 - The ballroom was arranged and prepared in a banquet dinner style, which is really inappropriate for a prom. For prom, you actually need a lot of space to move around in, and the point is to have some sort of a dance floor in the center of the ballroom? It is called a promenade for a reason.
Issue 2 :
The theme of the prom is Starry Starry Night. When we came in, we were among the first to arrive, and the mistake was horrendously obvious. They actually placed the letters spelling Staring Staring Night. Oh the shame.
Issue 3 - And you might be wondering what's the need for me to be ashamed of anything, this is what's up. My school's name is proudly displayed on the board with that horrid mistake, if the guests see it, my school will be shamed, and the consequences are too much for me to imagine.
Issue 4 - And what more could be the problem? The event is held from late afternoon to evening. Yet it's stated on the board 'Prom Night 2008'. Honestly, I give up.
In any case, while the very dedicated Naomi and Michelle discussed about the games they had planned for the event, them being very nice to still help out even though the organizer is doing a Paris Hilton, the said organizer and her entire family arrived not long after. With said organizer totally ignoring me as I'd quit the committee. Fine by me, I wanted to enjoy this event in peace anyway.
Us three thought that we could sit down in peace, but not for long.
Said organizer's mum dumped a damaged hamper to us, and asked us to repair it. Immediately.
So while Naomi went down with said organizer to settle the drums and amps, Michelle and I started to get to work. More like just Michelle doing most of the work, since I'm practically useless in crafts like these. So I just helped to cut the tape and random stuff like that.
And with due respect, I would like to honour Michelle and Naomi's FIRST-AID KIT here! They should know what I mean ;)
Presenting the first hamper Michelle fixed! =D
Looking lovely! x]
Just as we thought our job was done, THREE more hampers were placed on the table for us to fix.
I was pissed, honestly, but very nice Michelle just took one of the hampers, and started working on it! Salute to you, Michelle! :D
All of a sudden, Mr Photographer took a picture of Michelle and me working on the hampers! Bad timing much! LOL. Since Michelle was trying to cover up her mighty bruise that time. Eheh.
After settling said organizer's business, Naomi came to help us! Ahahah. I still remembered her mentioning that some of the bands that are trying to register don't even know their band names! Shame on them, seriously.
Next, the arrival of the birthday girl, Jasmine Ho! Looking super gorgeous indeed! Will show a picture of her later aye!
Jasmine came to join us with the hampers after she was done cutting out the tickets and writing the numbers on them for the lucky draw. We still had fun somehow. Honestly, we accidentally left some of the goodies out UNINTENTIONALLY. Really! XD
Then I saw the guys from SAB walking in, and they saw our sorry state repairing hampers on the floor in our skirts. I was too ashamed to face them after that for the whole event.
Now, let's get to the start of the event now, shall we?
First up ,we had a performance by this random band. I can't get their name at all, but honestly, they should had practiced before performing. Not to say that I'm much better than them or anything, but practice always makes perfect, no? Maybe not perfect, but at least acceptable.
The song they were performing was Hoobastank's The Reason. That's a nice song, and I told myself if they butchered it up I'll go up to them and kick their arses. But me being in a skirt, I thought twice about it.
It started off average..but you'll never know what happened next.
Barely a few seconds after the vocalist sang the first few lines, the whole song stopped.
And I guessed that he forgot his lyrics, and ah-mazingly, I was right!
Not long after, he had somebody passed the lyrics to him and he continued singing. With a lot of pauses and off-key notes. The pain. Still trying to get over it.
The awkwardness he felt after forgetting those lyrics made him turn away and search for help - aka lyrics from his bandmates.
Him looking down at the lyrics during the performance..
..and going on as if they were still pretty much professionals. That's Fatin Amira at the bottom right corner anyway.
You can judge them for yourself. Sorry for the bad video quality though.
But as Michelle said, they deserved a round of applause for having the guts to go up there unprepared, so I clapped. Right.
After that, it was the first session of the lucky draw, which was conducted by both said organizer and Nazlin dear.
Nazlin's on the left, while said organizer's the one on the right. And that face at the bottom left corner - that's Shamilla. Hahah, sorry for the candid there!
I think we FINALLY had lunch after that, which was fairly okay, too bad it turned cold already. Could had been better.
Second band performance, was by this band called "Sky of Love". Obviously, it's from the movie 'Koizora' they took that name from. Fairly okay performance, but it's only because I still have no idea how to appreciate acoustic Malay pop.
I honestly only wanted to take a picture of the hanging deco, but since they were there, fine by me.
As the programme went on, I snapped some pictures with the much loved and appreciated company there (:
From left to right - Moi! Jia Ying! Jasmine the birthday girl! and Shamilla the gorgeous!
From left to right - Michelle! Naomi! and moi! Surviving this event happened with the both of them! ;D
Moi and Nazlin aka Lily Allen of the day! =D
Moi and Nabilah aka my Patrick Starfish x]
Moi with Patrick Starfish and Atiqa. How did Atiqa made her eyeliner look really kohl-like, I have no idea. Looks nice on her. Lol.
From left to right - Fathini, moi and Liyana aka the 'otaku', other then Anith maybe! Hahah. Liyana looked absoulutely gorgeous too that day! Seriously =)=)
Back to the story, while said organizer's family members that were adults tried to drag some of the female guests for the catwalk competition (I have no idea why this of all things in a prom but oh well..), Naomi, Michelle and I went to the nearby washroom, and Naomi found out that there was a very unique toilet in one of the cubicles.
Behold!
Honestly, it is still usable, but definitely not user-friendly. Ahahahahah.
And now, I would like to smear this entry with a few images and a simple summary of a short story.
This would be Aishah Hanis, the girl in the white dress on the right, cuddling with what seems to be her boyfriend apparently. Picture credits to the wonderful Naomi for this shot! =)
The story began like this. Once, Aishah and another one of my friends, Gurpreet used to be best friends back in primary school. They both shared the love for cats, and I witnessed it all, as I attended Aishah's birthday party back in those days, and all of us were cuddling absoulutely ah-dorable kittens.
Since we all went up to secondary school, things had certainly changed.
For the worse.
Aishah had sort of refused to acknowledge us as her primary school/classmates since Form 1. She even bitched about us, especially Guppy, her ex-best friend. Frankly, I was super disappointed in her. Guppy was upset over this for awhile, but thank goodness she got to her senses quickly enough and found a whole gang of better friends, and I'm happy for her =D
And here she is, going all mushy-wushy in public.
Hello, Public Display of Affection much? If you want to do all that, please move to another place. This isn't a place where you can fool around. Not everybody can put a blind eye to everything you and your so-called boyfriend did.
Michelle and Naomi were definitely grossed out. Don't blame them one bit.
Honestly Aishah, if you EVER chanced upon this entry, we all would like you to explain yourself. Why, are we too low-class for you to even be given an explanation for your sudden change in behaviour? Puh-lease.
Thank gooseness for Gurpreet, for not having a friend like you anymore.
By the way, you should try to get to know your new friends better. They might be just eying on your wealth and status aye.
Speaking of change, I would like to present another person here, which would definitely smear my entry even more, but what the heck, I need to rant and clear my name once more.
This would be said organizer - named Shahira.
She's the main cause of all the problems that made this event basically a disaster.
She's the reason why the whole committee backed out on her.
She's the problem why you guys suffered during prom - which can't be even called a prom at all.
I wouldn't elaborate further on that, you want the full story?
I'll summarize it.
1. She used one-third of the deposit to buy the decorations and hampers. Honestly, the entire committee, especially me, had told her many times that the deposit must be paid to the hotel management, which was originally M-Suites, and can be used for nothing else. But she refused to listen. Therefore, resulting in the change in venue and the financial problems. 2. She said she wanted to sponsor the prizes, aka the hampers but what did she do? Used the money from the deposit. 'Smart' child. 3. We could had easily handled the deco with Jessica, as she's good with handicraft and stuff like that, plus she had the finances to cope as well. But NO, she had to use the money from the deposit once more, like I mentioned before. 4. We had band performances, and there was the problem of getting amps and drums. The committee told her the deposit was the priority, followed by the drums and amps, then the deco and minor details. After us bugging her, previously Veena and me, then Naomi and I, she told me in a few smses that I needn't worry, she settled the drums and the amps and we could get them, no problemo. Guess what? Next she was telling me whether I could sponsor or not or if I could ask the drummer to bring his own drums! Insane much?? 5. She keeps on pushing all the hard work to us, and expects us to find guests within a day when she was desperate. Hello, earth to Shahira, we're humans, not robots? 6. She wanted a committee, aka her friends to help her organize this event as a farewell party for her before she moves to KL next year, so fine, we were all glad to help. But whatever advice we offer, she goes and makes her own decisions without consulting us. All of us got pissed off with that. 7. She spent a freaking RM100+ on the tiara for the Prom Queen. Furious much? We could had made a better one on a budget scheme too. She's practically insane. 8. She has bad organizing skills. Trust me. 9. More reasons, but I'm too tired to mention them.
In any case, I would like to say something to said organizer :
"Shahira, much thanks to you, our school's reputation is now at stake, and you managed to embarrass us quite enough. We're honestly very disappointed with the way you handled this event, for the whole committee that ONCE backed you up know that it could had been a roaring success, instead of the mere unknown fews that made it happen. Frankly, all I can say now is, I hope you can actually survive in fast-paced KL next year, what with your natural bimbotic-ness and all."
And of course, I should make an exception and quote the band itself, save the best for last (:
Among the bands that performed, this one was the best among the rest.
From Michelle's blog, it seems that this band practiced a hell lot even before performing, professional much? XD
The spotlight for that day goes to..
The band named NEXT! Honestly, it gets confusing after awhile, but they just found themselves another fan - moi!
They performed Knockin' On Heaven's Door and the one which got everybody high, We the Kings' Check Yes Juliet.
Here's a short excerpt from Check Yes Juliet, once more I apologize for bad video quality, and I didn't get to take the full video as there were interruptions like phone calls and smses which cut the thing off. Damn.
I had to leave while they performed their encore - David Cook's Always Be My Baby. But overall, I'm sure they did great, and it's worth going for prom for their performance. Originally they wanted to do their performance last, quote the whole save the best for last thing, but as Naomi told them I wanted to watch them perform before I leave, as I had to leave early, they moved their performance to an earlier slot. Nice people much! =D
In any case, my humble apologies to whoever I'd invited. Thank gawd you guys didn't make it anyway. Well, except for the part where you guys missed out the rockin' performance by NEXT. Heh ;)
My thanks to Lyn-jie for lending me her bajus, without them I would had looked even worse for the whole thing. Mucho thanks once more! =]
Thanks too to Naomi and Michelle, for being the greatest company there! Would had died without them :) And they looked really pretty in formal wear and their nails especially looked wicked! XD
And thanks to the friends whom I'd known there, whether schoolmates, classmates, or new friends, you made the day survivable and better at least ;D
And with that, I finally conclude this post. Hurrah!
Hello there! You must have guessed by now – this is Leonie here, and I have no intention of boring you out with a long introduction of yours truly.
I have to admit though – I’m quite an interesting individual; those who know me can confirm that, and those who don’t…I don’t mean to brag, but you’re definitely missing out!
Feel free to click here to get to know me a little bit better! No worries, I’m very friendly and I won’t bite!
Meanwhile, enjoy reading the Fool in Frames!
Baring It All.
My name really is Leonie.
It’s not an English name I came up with for myself. My mother is indeed a genius in coming up with such a splendid name for me. Although my name has been unfortunately mutilated (nicknames are excluded) over the past years, full credits to my mum for my current identity.
I’m a cancer patient.
I’m certainly looking forward to changing the word ‘patient’ to ‘survivor’! If you’re interested to read about my journey in battling lymphoma, you can click here to proceed to my cancer blog.
Green is my favourite colour.
Ironic, I know; this blog is mainly pink instead. I like all colours actually, but I find myself having an affinity to the colour green. In fact, I can safely say that green is my soul colour.
I’m an art-appreciator.
Languages, music, fashion, photography, cultures, dance, literature, writing; just about anything, really. The arts truly intrigue me, especially thought-provoking pieces. Of course, the arts play a major role in inspiring me in my everyday life.
You’ll find me carrying a book to just about everywhere.
I don’t have a favourite genre – I read any book that interests me!
I found out that I’m actually a left-hander.
I am a trained right-hander from young, since apparently being left-handed is considered ‘wrong’. Basically, I’m ambidextrous! No wonder I find it easier to air guitar using my left hand than my right; I simply relate to the arts than subjects that deal with logical thinking better, too.
Taurus is my astrological sign.
A stubborn Bull I am, too. I abhor being rushed. I prefer doing matters at my own reasonable pace. I don’t particularly like changes in my routine, but I can adapt quite easily. I’m a very practical person as well. I enjoy the beautiful things in life, but that doesn’t make me shun ugliness at all. Besides, it all depends on how one perceives beauty. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
I’m a born perfectionist.
Still am, but I’m slowly learning to accept imperfection into my life. Also, I’m doing my best to erase the many expectations I have so I could one day master the art of letting go and freeing myself to simple happiness and joy.
A natural drama queen.
Compared to before, I’m less dramatic nowadays. Language-wise, I attempt to blog flawlessly in English and speak proper English online with my peers. Call me a Grammar Nazi all you want, but that’s how I roll. I only converse in perfect English in formal situations and during my dramatic outbursts. Otherwise, I’m absolutely capable of communicating like the average Malaysian!
It’s a pleasure to learn and discover new things.
It’s a different issue altogether when you’re forced to learn for the sake of getting good grades, though. Other than that, I’m open to new information and knowledge anytime! I especially would like to learn more languages and pick up new musical instruments.
Travelling around the world, participating in artistic photoshoots, performing in a band, writing a book…
…are just some of the things I would love to do in the near future, hopefully!
When it comes to social relationships,
the basic rules apply. If you respect me, I’ll respect you. If you happen to be someone who has low EQ skills, I’ll try to be tolerant but my patience is definitely limited. I’m observant when it comes to human behaviour. I’m a person of many opinions, but I don’t voice them out unless I trust you enough; I’m very honest and candid when it comes to the people I can trust. Even though I trust very easily, not everybody can prove that they’re all that nice. Hurt me, and I’ll only defend myself if necessary. Hurt my family or my friends – you won’t find me holding back.
Is there anything else you would like to know about me?
Throw me your questions and/or doubts here! I honestly have nothing to hide, so you’ll expect the truth and nothing but the truth.
It’s only how I phrase my answers that you’ll have to be aware of.

Hurrah!
