Kem Permit 2008.

Right, the entry itself.

Anyway, for those who aren't Girl Guides, Permit Camp, or more commonly known as Kem Permit here, is the camp for those Girl Guiders who are in the running of Queen's Guide to run a camp efficiently with the assistance of fellow Guiders while surviving with limited help like modern everyday items, in this case appliances like refrigerators and the internet. Work like setting up camp, cooking edible meals, making stable gadgets like shoe racks and tables with wood tied only with parcel string and ensuring the safety and welfare of the Guiders who are helping them to be in good condition, while abiding by the rules of being a true Girl Guider.

Sounds amazingly goody, but that sums just about everything I think.

Random fact - I'd been for Kem Permit once last year with Rasyidah as the leader.

So, with that I prayed really hard for this year's camp to be not so bad as last year, for sunburns and buzzing mozzies aren't really my idea of survival.

Well, I was wrong, all the time.

Read on, the details shall be there, if you can even get them anyway.

Day 1 - Thursday (20/11/2008)

Reached school around 11 or so. Did some random work like setting up half of the gazebo for the kitchen area before going off to the library with Min Wen and Neo in a search for the wonderful air-con after working our asses off under the sun and new manila cards for the notice board, yes, directly translated from papan kenyataan - camp style. Will show a picture of it later. Note that we walked and ran there thanks to Min Wen. Goodness gracious, it was fun though, despite the fact we might had been knocked down by some crazy drivers and whistled at by some pervert of a motorcyclist.

Was fuming about issues concerning the notice board, but thanks to Min Wen, Neo and Nithiyah's company plus the air-con from the library, soon managed to chillax, thankfully. Had fun talking to the all of them :)

Sharp at 2, we took a taxi to Panglima to get the much needed manila card which was okay. The owners of the mamak shop next door were really friendly and helpful =)

Went back to school hoping there won't be any trouble with Ju Chin for Min Wen and Neo, and Emelda for me. Thankfully, not much action was taken and we went back to our own respective assignments.

I was supposed to set up the tents and move all of the gadgets to the field, but I sort of rebelled and decided to finish up the very first job I was given - completing the notice board's..well, notices. Honestly, I hate it when I'm given a task, not completed it, then given other different odd jobs to do by either the same or different person. I seriously hate disorganization. Hence, maybe a very pissed off Emelda.

Cooked dinner, with a very angry Cik Low, and us worrying on how to get the fire started. There wasn't any coal, not enough firewood and the wind factor seriously did not help one bit.

In the end, we managed to get the sardine done, and got some rice from another group.

During dinner, was told something that I wasn't really happy to hear about. I mean, come on, you're not the only one with problems like those. All of us do, and seriously, with an attitude like yours, I wonder how you'll even get there.

Did more work after that, since our group was way overdue with the things we were supposed to do. Finally showered at 11, and tried to sleep around 2.

It was kind of uncomfortable, obviously, woke up many times in the middle of the night due to one thing - MOZZIES. Seriously, Neo and I were the most annoyed over these critters, and we were the ones who applied the most insect repellent on our ownselves. Didn't work too well though. School mozzies are way invulnerable compared to the common house mozzies. Unbearable indeed. Fell asleep at long last at 3, and woke up at 5.45, thanks to the nearby mosque.

A view of the school at night from the tent. Took this when I couldn't go back to sleep.

Another random fact : I couldn't sleep during last year's camp as well, so I stayed in the tent looking out at the other side of the school. Amazingly, it was 4 in the morning and I heard little kids laughing. No doubt about that.

Day 2 - Friday (21/11/08)

More lectures from Cik Low. Note to self and other Girl Guiders from SIGS who are aiming for Queen's Guide within these two years : Boil water first thing in the morning, EARLY MORNING mind you. And thank goodness I didn't had it too bad from her, like I usually do. Everybody had to learn the proper techniques of setting up the tents, raising the flag and hammering the wood into the ground the right way, or should I say, pacak-ing the wood. She left not too long after. Relief poured over me. Like, seriously.

Had more work to do after that. More problems showed up throughout the whole day. And Emelda finally succumbed to the amount of stress she got from the pressure of having to complete everything on time before the examiner turns up at 5. Honestly, Nazlin, Kat, and me felt bad for her, but according to sources I cannot name, we sort of changed our minds not long after. Frankly, I was super disappointed. But then, Nazlin, Kat and I made an agreement that we'll survive through this whole camp as best as we could.

The main problems was actually the notice board which was unable to stand on its own and the screening, aka the fake toilet. After the notice board was settled, Nazlin, Kat and I went off to prepare dinner. Trust me, the amount of problems we had there due to an unnecessary presence was totally incorrigible. Luckily, dinner was nicely prepared thanks to Gillian =]

This will be the notice board or the papan kenyataan with Nazlin at the back! XD

Our delicious dinner ;) Which we then shared with the other groups. Eheh.

The examiner came and all's well, ends well. All of the groups then did some pot luck thingamajig and shared food with everybody else. I must say - I love our fried rice and the fish Ju Chin cooked the most. LOL.

It was night real soon. Puan Tee was there and Shean Theen, Neo and I were talking with her while keeping watch on the leftovers from nosy cats and irritating flies. Not that I hate cats though, I like them fair enough compared to the rest of my schoolmates, especially Veena, but yeah, from camp I'd learnt that the school cats aren't to be trusted, AT ALL. It was fun, though Neo kept on pressing the fact that there were mozzies all over Puan Tee's head. Little did we knew, all of us were having the same exact problem! ROFL.

Cik Low called for me and the rest of the third formers that went for camp to see her in the counselling room. That was when I was asked to 'swing along' to take Queen's Guide for next year. I was traumatized, really, I was already so sure that I didn't want to go for it, I wanted to tell Cik Low that I seriously need time to reconsider, since it is a huge commitment that I had to make. Unfortunately, all I got was, "I'll see you on Monday to do the log book with the others."

Which pretty much sums up that I didn't had a choice at all. Boo.

But still, I'd better give it a shot at least, for you never want to get on Cik Low's bad side. Oh no you don't.

Initially, I wanted to sleep around 12am, since it had been a long day, always is on the second day of camp, unfortunately, still had more work to do. I was very sarcastic at this point, but still, I didn't complain though. Still made some sarcastic comments, but yeah, she doesn't get it. I gave up on her already. In the beginning, Min Wen and I managed to watch Aquamarine on Neo's portable DVD player. Too bad the battery died on us before we even got to the middle of the movie. Boo. So there we were, dying from no entertainment while untying all of the knots from the gadgets.

Finally slept around 3. And boy, honestly, the canteen benches were so much better compared to sleeping in the tent! Just that the mozzies were just as annoying there. Sigh.

Woke up around 4, and got some shots before I went back to zzz.

Some views of our canteen, which was pretty much in a bad condition after we made a huge mess of it. Hahah.

My dad's slippers. Always had these for camp. It matches the bench I was sleeping on, see? XD

Woke up at 5, and was shocked to see Min Wen and Jamie, who hadn't slept a wink, still working their butts off. I'd seriously thought they were already done when I woke up the first time, since they weren't in the canteen. Looks like they did way too much work. Went to help Jamie with her stuff, and saw the nicest stars I'd ever seen in a long time.

Tried taking a picture of them pretty things, but of course, was unable to get a clear shot. Maybe some things just have to stay as memories :]

Day 3 - Saturday (22/11/08)

Did some other odd jobs before going back at 8, for personal reasons. Have no idea what I missed out for that day, but frankly, I don't want to know, and don't need to. Heh.

And overall, I'd really learnt how to survive. Really.

You have no idea how bad school camps are compared to outdoor camps. LOL.

With that, I shall conclude this part of the entry,

*****
Meanwhile, I had been tagged by Lyn and Deedee, will get to it asap! XD
